Dosha Pops: Launching the Sweetest Candy On A Stick
While making a mysterious formula, Willy Wonka said “Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.” This quote, taken from the iconic movie Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, is so true. The ingredients for starting a new business are a smidgen great idea and a potful of really hard work. I learned this lesson first hand. In 2011, I experienced a spark of electricity that was the great idea of creating Ayurvedic lollipops designed for your specific dosha. Since then, I’ve been perspiring.
I read that starting a business requires persistence. Boy, is that an understatement. Even my first step in discovering how to make all natural hard candy was fraught with difficulty. I studied the basics with sugar experts and Ayurveda experts. The rest I had to learn on my own. I ran experiment after experiment. I threw out many batches of hard candy in the process because I couldn’t find an expert or book on how to make good all natural hard candy, let alone Ayurvedic candy.
Additionally, I ignored suggestions of having my lollipops industrially manufactured. It would’ve been easier and faster to have my candy mass produced. However, I wanted to continue to make the same candy that I created for myself, family and friends. I believe that the quality and flavor of the lollipops would otherwise be altered.
My journey to become a social entrepreneur also included learning bookkeeping, corporate tax and marketing. I officially joined the 21st Century when I got a Facebook page and learned how to Tweet! The only thing I knew prior to creating Dosha Pops, was the legal aspects of running a company. As you can see, you need persistence because everything takes longer than expected. I’m continually surprised by how long everything can take. Everything from product development to launch has taken much longer than I expected.
It’s all been incredibly challenging. When I started I knew that it would take time, effort, and money. However, I didn’t know that it would be so emotionally taxing. I definitely had some emotional highs and lows. One week I would think of myself as the next modern-day female Willy Wonka spreading Ayurvedic wisdom through lollipops; the next would be nightmares of never launching due to website glitches and botched batches of candy. Lucky for me, these particular nightmares were resolved. After trying three website platforms (yes I said three), I no longer have website glitches. Occasionally, I still botch batches of candy but that’s part of the learning process.
Dosha Pops is my passion. I’ve become consumed by Dosha Pops, in that I think about it day and night. The cool thing is that this total immersion doesn’t feel like work because it’s my passion. So after many tireless nights of candymaking, copywriting and chart of accounts mastering, I am excited to announce the launch of Dosha Pops, Inc!
On A Health Lick,
P.S. Now you know my mysterious formula for inventing Dosha Pops!
